La cifosi è un'eccessiva curvatura in avanti del tratto superiore della colonna vertebrale che crea una postura arrotondata o ingobbita, e può derivare da postura scorretta, malattia di Scheuermann, fratture vertebrali osteoporotiche o anomalie dello sviluppo. Un chirurgo ortopedico valuta il grado e la causa della cifosi tramite radiografie o risonanza magnetica e determina se sia indicato l'uso di un busto, la fisioterapia o la correzione chirurgica. La fisioterapia incentrata su esercizi di rinforzo posturale è efficace per la cifosi posturale da lieve a moderata e aiuta a prevenirne la progressione.
