La debilidad muscular puede deberse a la falta de uso, a enfermedades neuromusculares, a miopatías inflamatorias o a afecciones sistémicas que alteran la función muscular. Los fisioterapeutas evalúan la fuerza y la función muscular y diseñan programas de rehabilitación progresiva para recuperar la potencia y la resistencia. Cuando se sospecha que la debilidad tiene una causa neurológica o inflamatoria, se coordina la derivación a neurología o reumatología.
